My piece for flute, electronics, and video written for Ania Karpowicz will premiere for the first time live during the Kody CODES festival of traditional and avantgarde music in Lublin, Poland on May 14th.
Last year Zansei premiered as a fixed audiovisual recording during the online edition of the Sacrum Profanum festival, with the video edited by Izumi Yoshida. I’m really excited to see the scenography and costumes Natalia Kitamikado made especially for the TOVA project, which also includes pieces by Marta Śniady, Teoniki Rożynek, and Aleksandra Kaca. Michał Bereza will perform the live electronics part.

残生 (zansei) (2020) ENG
In the process of creating my piece “Zansei”, I collaborated with Izumi Yoshida, who created the video part. “Zansei” is a subjective collection of impressions, gestures, spaces and rituals that make up a journey through memories. “Zansei” creates a fictional journey through an undiscovered dimension of the world. The hidden dimension is available to everyone who wants to plunge into space and try to understand the message behind the image and sound. “Zansei” is also a piece about facing the reality that nothing happens by chance, that we build our lives based on decisions. This is obviously a universal truth, but especially as a woman living in the present day, I feel that I live in a reality that differs from what is natural for me. I have to cope with an imposed reality that I found and that I can only modify. I cannot really change it, or model it, only build over it through my choices. This realization and awakening makes me want to live the “rest of my life” (japanese: “Zansei”) in harmony with my true nature.

W moim utworze „Zansei” współpracowałam z Izumi Yoshida, która zrealizowała partię video. „Zansei” to subiektywny zbiór wrażeń, gestów, przestrzeni i rytuałów, które składają się na podróż przez wspomnienia i tworzą fikcyjną wędrówkę przez nieodkryty wymiar świata. Ten wymiar jest dostępny dla wszyskich, którzy bedą chcieli zanurzyć się w przestrzeni i spróbować zrozumieć meta-przekaz kryjący się za obrazem i dźwiękiem. „Zansei” to także zmierzenie się z rzeczywistością, że nic nie dzieje się przypadkowo, że budujemy nasze życie w oparciu o decyzje. Jest to oczywiście prawda uniwersalna, ale szczególnie mocno jako kobieta żyjąca w obecnych czasach, odczuwam, że żyje w rzeczywistości która odbiega od tego co jest dla mnie naturalne, w rzeczywistości narzuconej, którą zastałam i wydawać by się mogło, że mogę ją jedynie modyfikować, a nie realnie zmieniać i modelować – budować poprzez moje wybory. Taka realizacja i przebudzenie powodują, że jeszcze bardziej pragnę przeżyć resztę mojego życie w zgodzie z moją prawdziwą naturą.
